We'll begin our journey in Paris, the "City of Lights", France's capital and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture. Its picturesque 19th-century architecture is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine make Paris an insatiable city for both first-time and frequent visitors.

We'll continue on to Avignon, one of Europe's most remarkable Medieval cities, located on the Rhône River, in southeastern France, where you'll discover the incredibly preserved 800-year-old stone battlements of Avignon and the impressive Pope’s Palace with a local guide.

Visit charming villages such as Roussillon, Isle sur la Sorge, Carcassonne, and many others. Explore the UNESCO world heritage site of St-Émilion, a medieval village perched above vineyards renowned for producing full-bodied, deep red wines, and easily the most alluring of the region's wine towns.
Forget all about time in the Dordogne region, tracing the ‘Route des Chateaux’ where you’ll see some of the country’s most famous estates producing wine for hundreds of years.

Day 1 – Friday -  Bienvenue! Welcome to France!

  • Meet your guide and fellow travelers in the hotel lobby in the late afternoon for a leisurely panoramic tour of Paris by private transportation, stopping along the way for picture-taking opportunities. Our guide will tell us about the history and culture of this fascinating European capital.
  • Welcome group dinner with Parisian specialties.

Day 2 – Saturday - Vive La Provence : Long live Provence!

  • Train journey from Paris to Avignon (high-speed TGV train – first class tickets)
  • Transfer from train station to your sumptuous hotel in Uzes near Avignon for check-in.
  • After check in, enjoy an afternoon of free time for lunch on your own and to explore the quaint town of Uzes.
  • Welcome group dinner with local specialties.
  • Included meals : Breakfast, Dinner.

 

Day 3– Sunday – Le Coeur Rouge de la France : The Red Heart of France
  • After breakfast, the tour heads into rural Provence.  The drive alone offers some of the most stunning views of the countryside. This morning we'll stop in Isle Sur La Sorgue for a traditional market day.
  • After a gentle stroll through stately Isle Sur La Sorgue, we’ll head to the tiered village of Gordes, rising like a giant wedding cake over the rivers Sorgue and Calavon, jutting spectacularly out of the white rock face of the Vaucluse plateau. While we're here we'll enjoy a tasty group lunch.
  • We’ll visit the impressive Abbey at Senanque, and then continue on to Roussillon where you'll have free time to explore this historic old village.
  • We'll return to the hotel in the early evening so you have the chance to dine at your leisure.

Day 4– Monday - La Vie Provencal : Life in Provence : Saint Remy & Le Baux-Provence

  • Explore the classic Provençal landscapes that inspired van Gogh, where olive groves, cypress trees, and colorful flowers will perhaps seem like Deja Vu, as you’ll identify some of the sights from his famous canvases.
  • We'll visit St-Remy-de-Provence, where Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh spent one year of his life at a monastery that served as an asylum; his stay here resulted in a period of creativity that produced 150 of his most beloved paintings. Enjoy a group lunch and free time in this lovely town. Later in the afternoon, we will stop in the picturesque Medieval village of Les Baux-de-Provence before heading to our next destination.
  • Now get ready to get your hands dirty at a local farmhouse learning to make traditional Provençal dishes during a fun group cooking class, followed by a relaxed group dinner.
  • Return to your hotel.

Day 5 – Tuesday - French Country Chic : Pont du Gard, Avignon & Chateauneuf-du-Pape

  • We'll start the day with an adventurous guided walk on the famous Pont du Gard, an ingenious 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct spanning the River Gardon, and have a tasty group lunch by the historic aqueduct.
  • After lunch, we'll continue on to Avignon for a slow-paced guided walking tour through one of Europe's most beautiful medieval cities since the 14th century when it was briefly the capital of Christendom and home of the Papacy. Graceful Avignon's turn as the seat of papal power bestowed on the city a bounty of magnificent art and architecture, none grander than the massive medieval fortress and papal palace, Palais des Papes, where a local guide will reveal the treasures and lifestyles of the pontiffs who reigned in Avignon for almost 70 years.
  • Nearby, carpets of vineyards unfold around tiny, medieval Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the epicenter of one of the world's great wine-growing regions. Only a small ruin remains of the chateau, but we'll take it all in as well as enjoy a tasting at a nearby family owned vineyard.
  • Group dinner in this tiny, medieval village.
  • Return to your hotel.

Day 6 – Wednesday - Discover Carcassonne & the Languedoc-Roussillon Region

  • Check out of your hotel in Uzes and transfer by minibus towards the Bordeaux area (approx. 6 hours journey with stops along the way). We’ll begin our drive westward towards the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, stopping along the way in lovely Medieval Carcassonne, a fortified city with spiky towers and imposing walls, which make it look like something out of a children’s storybook.
  • We’ll lunch together in a traditional spot where cassoulet and foie gras will be presented. Back on the road, we’ll pass through different wine growing areas before arriving in the Saint Émilion area.
  • Arrival at a traditional hotel built within a restored French Chateau, where you’ll check in for the next four nights of the trip.
  • Group dinner in one of our favorite spots in Saint Émilion.
  • Included meals : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
 

Day 7 – Thursday - The Magic of St. Emilion & the Elegance of French Chateaux

  • After a good night’s sleep and leisurely morning wake-up, we’ll hop on our bikes for a fun, easy paced ride (about 10km round-trip) visit a bustling local farmer’s market, where we’ll gather tasty delicacies from the local vendors, including freshly baked bread, seasonal vegetables, sliced charcuterie, stinky cheeses, and plenty of wine! Now, hop on a bicycle for a fun ride (about 10km round-trip), and have a picnic in the wine areas of Saint Emilion. (in case of inclement weather, lunch will be in a local home of B&B).
  • Enjoy free time to rest up at the hotel or explore more of the village life of Saint Emilion.
  • You'll follow an expert guide on a unique private visit of the underground monuments of Saint Emilion, including an impressive monolithic church, dating back to the 12th century. We'll enjoy a wine tasting at a local Chateaux before returning to the hotel.
  • Free time in Saint Emilion to explore and enjoy dinner on your own.

Day 8 – Friday - Good Food, Good Wine, Good Friendship in the Dordogne region.

  • Drive through the countryside of one of France's most fascinating provinces: the Dordogne region. We’ll stop along the way, viewing breathtaking medieval wine estates and charming villages that line up along the river. Experience the local lifestyle first-hand through colorful and fragrant markets, where time appears to have stopped. Our first stop is in beautiful Sarlat Le Caneda, known always as Sarlat. Sarlat holds picturesque tangle of honey-colored buildings, alleyways, and secret squares, boasting some of the region's best preserved medieval architecture.
  • Group lunch featuring a traditional meal in a local auberge (divine duck and foie gras are some of the typical dishes).
  • After lunch, we’ll continue our journey through breathtaking medieval wine estates and lovely villages classified as the most beautiful in France before stopping in Beynac for free time and a cruise on a medieval style boat. We’ll stop in La Roque Gageac, and then stop in Domme for free time, coffee and of course photo opportunities.
  • At the end of the afternoon, we’ll drive along the river to Bergerac, where there is free time for dinner on your own. 
  • Return to the hotel in Saint-Emilion.

Day 9 – Saturday - Tasty, Velvety, and Picture-Perfect Bordeaux.

  • Our day will take us along the ‘Route des Chateaux’ so that you may admire some of the most famous estates for so many great photo opportunities. Then, we’ll enjoy a private visit and wine tasting in a prestigious Châteaux in the Medoc area, followed by a group lunch.
  • In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour of Bordeaux, once known as the "Sleeping Beauty" among of French cities. It is now a vibrant destination with much to offer its visitors.  Your local guide will take you along the pedestrian-friendly boulevard and show you the restored neoclassical architecture and high-tech public transport system: since 2007 half of the entire city was UNESCO-listed, making it the largest urban World Heritage Site.
  • Return to your hotel and enjoy the final group dinner at the castle restaurant.

Day 10 – Sunday - Transfer back to PARIS

  • Check out of your hotel and meet your tour director and driver in the hotel lobby to transfer to the rail station in Bordeaux.
  • Train transfer to Paris (TGV high-speed train with first-class tickets)
  • Transfer by minibus from the train station to your hotel for check-in and final night. Leisure afternoon on your own for last-minute Parisian shopping and packing! This will be the final night included in this tour package.

Day 11 – Monday - Au revoir, France! See you next time!

  • After breakfast the tour ends and passionate travelers depart strong friends, so until the next time, or à la prochaine! A warm hug goodbye & have a safe flight! Au revoir! (Private airport transfer to CDG airport upon request.)

  • Airfare is not included.
  • Transfer back to the airport at the end of your stay is not included in the tour rate. Please contact us if you'd like to add that to your tour package.
  • Reminders, hotel information, and arrival instructions will be sent by email roughly 60 days before the start of the trip (please make sure we have your current email address).
  • You must be in good physical condition to sign-up for this trip. This is not considered a physically challenging trip, nonetheless there will be a lot of walking uphill, downhill, walking over uneven pavement, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Nada's Italy highly recommends that you purchase Travel Insurance for your trip. For suggestions on policies, please contact us.
  • Despite the fact that we do our best to select hotels with outstanding customer service and amenities, you should know that air conditioning in Italy, as well as wifi connections are not as reliable as they are in the United States.
  • The hotel staff assigns rooms to guests, some rooms may include stairs. A view is not guaranteed. Rooms differ in size and layout, in general, Italian rooms are smaller compared to US standards. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with shower and/or tub, hair-dryer, and toiletries.
  • It is your responsibility to obtain the required documents to travel to Italy. Your passport should be valid for 6 months after your return date. Verify with your own country's travel laws and government agencies.

Your Tours are Wonderful

Simona was extremely helpful, before and during the trip. The Hotel Galerie Entraigues was my favorite hotel. Just so much charm. I loved the little city of Uzes. Travel with Nadia's Italy. You will not be disappointed.
