Ancient Rome & Amalfi Coast Tour Itinerary

Friday Day 1 | Benvenuto - Welcome!
Arrival in Rome after a long flight overseas, so get some rest in what the Romans called ‘Roma Caput Mundi’ (Rome, Capital of the World). Stay in a historical aristocratic palazzo, turned into a 4-star hotel, located in one of Rome's most sumptuously elegant neighborhoods. First night stay in Rome hotel.

Saturday Day 2 | Monuments of Ancient Rome
After breakfast, you’ll admire some of the classic splendors of the Roman Empire. A private orientation tour in the "Eternal City" exploring its civilization through the ages with a local guide and private driver. Group lunch in a local trattoria.
After lunch, checkout from hotel in Rome, as we make our way to Southern Italy and the Amalfi Coast. Check into our hotel in Positano. Take some time for a relaxing stroll through this beautiful 'vertical' village and enjoy dinner with the group in a local trattoria.

Sunday Day 3 | Eleganza Maestosa : Majestic Elegance
Today we visit the awe-inspiring coastal villages along the ‘Costiera’, including Amalfi, with its spectacular byzantine-style Cathedral, lovely shops and characteristic piazza, then Ravello, with its aristocratic villas clinging to the mountainside with breath-taking views. Group lunch in Ravello. Shop for the wonderful bright hand-painted pottery items or the local specialty: Limoncello. Dinner on your own in Positano.

Monday Day 4 | Le Terre Incantate : The Enchanted Lands
Enjoy a fun group cooking class by a local chef, followed by lunch. Learn about traditional recipes and how local products as Limoncello are made! Afternoon on your own in Positano. Tonight enjoy a piping hot hand-tossed Neapolitan Pizza!

Tuesday Day 5 | Tesori Nascosti : Hidden Treasures
By boat we'll travel across the bay to the enchanting Island of Capri, where at your leisure you can take a picturesque walk to the top of the island visiting the remains of Emperor Tiberius's Villa Jovis, passing by fragrant groves of chestnut, pine, lemon, and olive trees, and rose gardens spilling over elegant villa walls. Weather permitting, we’ll be guided into the famous ‘Grotta Azzurra’. Lunch on your own. Return to the hotel by boat. Dinner in local restaurant.

Wednesday Day 6 | Tra Templi Greci e Mitologia : Among Greek Temples & Mythology
Today we’re off to the surroundings of the town of Battipaglia, south of the Amalfi Coast, known for the production of the world's best gourmet Mozzarella di Bufala (made from buffalo milk). We'll visit a local organic farm where you can see how this tasty cheese is made as well as enjoy a delicious lunch with the farm's specialties. We then continue our trip back in time, visiting the Greek temples of Paestum. These amazing structures are the standing remains of three major temples in Doric style, dating from the first half of the 6th century BC, a huge testimony of the Greek colonies in this area. These were dedicated to Hera, Apollo, and Athena. Dinner on your own in Positano.

Thursday Day 7 | Giornata al Sole : Day in the Sun
Aaaah.... take it easy with an incredibly scenic and mind-soothing boat ride along the coast, visiting hidden caves with sparkling emerald waters. De-stress with a refreshing swim near a quiet bay. Group lunch. Afternoon at your leisure & dinner on your own in Positano.

Friday Day 8 | I Tesori della Storia : The Treasures of History
Departure for the intimidating colossus of Mount Vesuvius, where after a short climb, we’ll walk along the edges of its steaming crater and marvel over the majestic view of the entire Bay of Naples. We’ll stop for a quick lunch and then continue for the treasures that for centuries were hidden beneath layers of lava stone in the small town of Pompeii. A local guide will walk us through the amazing Roman lifestyle, visiting the houses with their wonderful frescoes, once residences of roman patricians before the tremendous eruption of 79 A.D. Then, a private visit of a local family owned vineyard, where the friendly owner will tell us about the famous ‘Lacryma Christi’ and other local wines...and of course, we'll enjoy drinking them during our group dinner featuring home-made local specialties!

Saturday Day 9 | La Dolce Vita : The Sweet Life
Morning cooking class in Positano, followed by lunch. Afternoon transfer to Sorrento where you can enjoy free time for shopping & exploring. Group dinner to the sounds of the local folkloristic dance: Tarantella!

Sunday Day 10 | Ville e Giardini Romani : Roman Gardens & Villas
Check-out from Hotel in Positano and drive towards Rome. Group lunch along the way. We'll stop in Tivoli, a small town known since ancient times for its soothing spring of Acqua Albulea (sulphureous baths). Crossing the Ponte Lucano, we'll arrive at Emperor Hadrian’s Villa. A visit of Villa D’Este, famous for its water system, the architecture of its gardens, the pavilions, and fountains. Check-in Rome hotel for final night stay. Enjoy your final dinner at your leisure in this spectacular city, where discovery never ends!

Trip price does not include airfare and anything that is not specified to be included. Price does not include any personal-related expenses, or travel-related expenses outside of the scheduled itineraries. The food & wine that is included is what is presented during meals, all other items ordered by traveler including wine and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are not included in tour price. Trip price does not include optional tips to restaurants nor to tour personnel such as drivers, maids, etc. These gratuities are given at sole discretion of each individual traveler and are not required for participation in tour.
